Whatever your position on this scale, I'm sure that you'd like to be a person who is motivated when they face challenges. The good news isthat this is much less complex than people imagine it will be. It's as simple as some minor adjustments in your brain about how you view things. Returning to my initial question, if you've ever wondered how two people respond differently to the same event this is because of how they are processing what's happening in their brain. Think of two tennis players traveling across the country in a major tournament they've been hoping for all year long. When they arrive, they find out that their bags with all of their tennis racquets have been lost which means they must play with unfamiliar equipment. Player "A" says to himself 'this is just my luck' and thinks about the injustice of it and how all of his hopes of winning have been shattered. Meanwhile player "B" considers that this is a pity but I am now offered the chance to show people how strong I am , if I do very well or win using an unfamiliar racquet.' If you answered "B," pat yourself on the back. As"A "A" took the incident personally and started catastrophizing (i.e. concluding that this will lead to an incident) however, player "B" recognized that things like this happen, and immediately put it into a context where it could be of benefits to him. It is not surprising that when unfortunate or tragic events occur to individuals, the majority of them inadvertently undercut themselves and make the situation even worse. They do this by allowing these unfortunate events to dominate their thoughts. While the player "A" was obsessed with "his" fate and the way it was going ruin everything "B" accepted that things like this do happen often and went about focusing on the things could be done. If you'd like to know how to deal with adversity more effectively, your first task is learning how to avoid taking bad things that happen to you personally. If you focus on the negative and feel that it is needlessly worse and takes you on a path of despair and despair. The easiest way to develop this fresh and improved mindset, is to realize that bad things happen to every person. The next step , after accepting that things don't always take place as planned is to focus your attention to tackling the issue and finding ways that it can be used to your advantage. This second step comes down in learning to be able to control the things you are in control of and the best way to let go of everything else.
